Since we are headed into a new year I’m sharing 6 tips for keeping those closets clean instead of cluttered. It’s simple to make the most of your closet space!
Clutter Free Closet
1. BARE BONES IT
Before you begin organizing a closet, I recommend emptying it out entirely.
This way you can assess what you have and eliminate what you no longer have a need for. Starting with an empty fresh space is also a great way to maximize the space. Take measurements, and get a clear idea of what you are working with. This is the first step that I recommend for achieving a clutter free closet.
2. REACH IT
Measure the space from the top shelf of your closet to the ceiling. Make the most of this space by finding containers to fit this area. Since this area is taller and harder to access, store items here that you don’t need to get to on a regular basis. Remember, for safety reasons always keep storage items away from any closet lighting you have. A folding ladder or stool tucked into the corner will help you get to the shelf when necessary.
3. CONTAIN IT
Containers come in every shape and size! Measure your closet dimensions so you can find the perfect pieces to fit yours. Containers are great for holding anything and everything, and offer protection from moths, moisture, and other elements. Dollar stores are great places to check for containers that will be perfect for getting the job done.
4. HANG IT
Basic clothing hangers are great, but really think about what you are hanging up. You can use skirt hangers to clamp ties and belts in place, or use those basic hangers to hang up linens neatly. Explore a variety of hanger options and look for ones that are functional in the type of space you are working with.
5. PEEL AND STICK IT
Peel and stick hooks offer instant storage space anywhere. Just peel and stick and you now have a place to hang jewelry, coats, bags, ties, and more. Place these on the backs of doors or even on the inside walls of your closet for some quick space.
6. BEHIND IT
This space is often a space that most of us don’t take advantage of. An over the door shoe holder bag or rack can work wonders for extra storage. Even if you don’t need the bag to hold shoes, you can use one of these organizers to hold winter gear, belts, ties, and other small accessories.
Closets can be quite functional and provide excellent storage if you know how to manage them. Consider these 6 tips for keeping closets clean instead of cluttered, and see how simple it can be to actually enjoy your closet space!
